• “Safety” in Combat Magazine, Fall 2006

  “Safety” is the story of Monica, a pacifist pregnant with her first child, and her younger brother Patrick, who has just informed her that he is enlisting in the army intending to go to Iraq. They explore their lives, views, and relationships during a final visit before he leaves for basic training.


• “Framing” in Touchstone, Spring 2007 (graduate writing contest first-place winner)
  In “Framing,” Juma, an artist, suspects his wife of having an affair with her employer. As he discovers the truth, he negotiates the place of work, art, and love in his life.


• “The Boyfriends” in Euphony, Spring 2007
  Newlyweds Rosa and Kim decide to throw themselves a party to celebrate their marriage. As a prank, they construct a guest list comprised entirely of the men they dated before realizing that they were attracted to women, but the event isn’t as amusing as they had imagined.
